The Affenpinscher originated in Germany. Affenpinschers are intelligent, friendly, loyal, alert, and lively. Affenpinschers can get along fine with children and other household pets especially when raised together.

Affenpinschers are commonly referred to as the "monkey dog" because of their physical appearance and pleasant attitude.
The coat of an Affenpinscher is around 1" in length at the shoulders and body and is a bit longer around the head, neck, chest, stomach, and legs. Their coat is designed as protection during extreme weather conditions. The coat is low shedding and comes in various colors. They should be brushed and combed two to three times a week as well as professional grooming every three months.
Affenpinschers may be difficult to house train, and we found using the crate training method works best. They are very quick to learn but quickly become bored with repetitive tasks. Affenpinschers are active and energic and can do well living in an apartment setting if provided with enough indoor play sessions and daily leashed walks.
