This hybrid is quickly becoming a family favorite. The Shorkie puppy is a cross between two pure bred dogs, the Yorkshire Terrier and the Shih Tzu. The Shorkie has a coat that is typically long and silky; both parent breeds are non-shedding, so these puppies are great for allergy sufferers. Their beautiful coat does require weekly brushing. A slicker brush and a metal comb are the recommended tools for this breed. Shorkie puppies are sweet nurtured and playful. They enjoy spending time with family and love children. The size of the Yorkshire terrier paired with the personality of the Shih Tzu makes this a wonderful pet. They are intelligent and typically train well. Their small size lets them easily be owned in either apartments or houses. They enjoy exercise but need little to none. The Shorkie is an affectionate dog that is commonly used a companion for seniors or children. Their calm nature makes them wonderful lap dogs and enjoys their owner’s company. Shorkie pups are small enough to be wee wee pad trained if desired. This is a popular method for Long Island owners, due to the harsh winters. They enjoy having a crate and use it as their home, often bringing treats and bones inside to enjoy. Canine Corral does not suggest rawhide for your puppies or dogs.
